Position Summary

The IT Project Manager will serve as a key member of the Optum team, leading complex technology projects that drive innovation and deliver value to our business and clients. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, who will manage all phases of the project lifecycle—planning, execution, monitoring, and closure—while ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance with company standards.

Primary Responsibilities

•            Lead multiple, concurrent IT projects of varying scope and complexity within Optum, ensuring timely delivery to meet strategic objectives and business goals.

•            Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, resource allocation, budget, risk assessment, and communication strategies.

•            Effectively coordinate and communicate across cross-functional teams—including engineers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders—to ensure project requirements are defined, understood, and met.

•            Manage project risks and issues proactively, implementing mitigation strategies and facilitating resolution to keep projects on track.

•            Monitor project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques; report on project progress, deliverables, and KPIs to stakeholders and leadership.

•            Drive project meetings, set agendas, document decisions and action items, and ensure timely completion of tasks.

•            Ensure adherence to Optum’s project management methodologies, IT governance standards, and regulatory/compliance requirements.

•            Support process improvement initiatives to optimize IT delivery and project management practices within the team.

•            Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting open communication and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

•            Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

•            5+ years of experience managing IT or technical projects, preferably within healthcare or a related industry.

•            Demonstrated expertise with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall) and tools (e.g., Jira, MS Project, Smartsheet).

•            Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.

•            Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.

•            Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and align diverse stakeholders.

•            Experience managing vendor/partner relationships and third-party deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

•            PMP, Scrum Master, or related project management certification.

•            Experience delivering IT solutions in a regulated environment (e.g., HIPAA, SOC2).

•            Knowledge of healthcare technology trends, interoperability, and digital transformation.

•            Ability to drive change and adapt to evolving business needs and technology landscapes.
